Olin Janusz past project Bare Wire Son really blew us away. It’s a masterpiece of brooding, heavy slowcore that meditated on personal accounts of loss and senseless violence through interpolations of WWI correspondence. A historical document as much as a record, “Off Black” is still on constant repeat. His new work under Olin Janusz is a similarly bleak affair, but it trades out the creeping guitars with intricate and rich instrumentation weaving in and through his deep baritone. Fans of Nick Cave, Protomartyr and Leonard Cohen will find a lot to love in this literate and luxurious music.
