Sleepthink - "Loss Meditation"

A deep meditation on loss, the Australian artist sleepthink processes an intimate experience of collective grief through a musical lens touched by artists like Ryuichi Sakamoto and Hiroshi Yoshimura and recent artists like claire rousay in their blending of the personal and meditative minimalism.

According to the press release, “on the 30th of July, 2022, i was in brisbane for my friend tim’s celebration of life, following his sudden passing a couple of weeks earlier. it had reached the early hours of the morning, and almost everyone had left or gone to bed. fiz, rose, brooke and i sat around the fire in the garden; tired, cold and boozy. i set up my zoom recorder on the ground between us and recorded about 45 minutes of audio - fiz played the guitar and sang, sharing some new songs with me, and i took a turn to noodle through some chords while the others talked around me. there was no agenda to the conversation - rose and brooke didn’t even know i was recording at the time. i took this recording home with me and this piece of audio is what you can hear throughout ‘LOSS MEDITATION’. edited, cut down, processed with side chained gates and other dynamic tools. the result is something of a collaged version of that full conversation, highlighting notes and words that poked their way through and made sense in the context of the synths and sounds around them.”
