“Carlee Ray” is a shoegaze tribute to Carly Rae Jepson. I’ve noticed a non-ironic embrace of the Canadian pop artist among some of my most ardent music weirdo friends. It’s hard to miss her objectively perfect pop delivery and audiophile hi-fi sheen on her songs. The Shoegaze band The Branch Davidians take what could be a sturdy CRJ hook and drag it under heavy shoegazer production and lo-fi drum machine rhythms (replete with handclaps), the result is true Shoegaze pop bliss. An anthem for the pop fan within all of us.
