Layered atop a thick ambient pad that resembles fog enveloping a coastline, the multi-instrumentalist Six Missing is adept at folding in additional instrumentation that builds the track from the ground up. Dedicated to his grandmother, Six Missing folds in expressionistic layers of piano and guitar, letting his fingers run over the fretboard in a fits of inspiration and passion metered by years of study and composition. The result is something close to what Chuck Johnson is able to do with the pedal steel, create glowing ambient pieces taking inspiration from classical and folk wellsprings while creating a sound all his own. Take a couple of laps through “Plant Flowers” today while the sun is shining.
