The Salt Lake Electric Ensemble formed as an ensemble to perform and record Terry Riley’s 1964 masterwork “In C”, from there SLEE has tackled performing work by other 20th and 21st century composers including Philip Glass. With “For MIA” the group was comissioned by a dance company to create a composition around the loose parameters of: work within E phrygian and use 12/8 time signature. The result is a slow, minimalist build into a breathtaking climax. There is a huge payoff as all performers are pushing the boundaries of keeping their loose knit collective together. Highly recommended.
