“What do you need to be happy?”. It seems appropriate to start out 2020 asking ourselves this question. Columbia, MO-now-NYC harpist and neo-classical musician Ruth Acuff posits this question – and then explores the space between what she needs and a list of possible suggestions. This approach is a perfect counterpoint to how “To Be Unhappy” unfolds as a song. Starting with a stately march, “To Be Happy” contracts to Acuff’s voice, harp and cello accompaniments as she ponders these questions. Letting single notes ring out into the air, Acuff explores the wide tonal range of her harp – from the simple to the studied and complex. “To be Happy” is a perfect intention-setter for the new decade.

We have totally loved Ruth and her development over the years. She played our Home Concert Series a few times and how she is excelling in NYC. We love you, Ruth (and Jeff).
