As a founding member of the Bang on a Can Collective and a frequent Brian Eno and Phillip Glass collaborator, Israeli-born Maya Beiser’s cello work has been featured in some of the most progressive new music circles in the 20th century. For her new cello-based work on delugEON, Beiser’s work tackles climate change with elegiac prose. “Water” is a mournful requiem for the avoidable tragedy unfolding before our eyes. “Water” reworks “l’eau” from French composer Oliver Messiaen. Beiser folds in the ebbing and flowing nature of the sea, performing this melancholy piece on an eroding, fading coastline.
