During times of great uncertainty, boundaries provide a great deal of reassurance. A sense there is an end and a beginning. For Matthew Thomason, during the first national lockdown the coastline of his native Falmouth, Cornwall provided inspiration for “Aberfal”. A meditation on the coast, “Aberfal” is where two worlds connect in a dramatic and clear boundary line. The hypnotic waves upon rock motion is clearly visible the cyclical nature of Thomason’s heavily pulsating piano lines. There is a gentle ebb and flow as these lines accrue more and more droning overtones and heavy synths are marshalled in this natural timing. A wonderful and deeply felt meditative track from the UK based ambient artist and film composer.
