Using a framework of previously recorded material, Mathjis Leeuwis on “Deconstruction I” breaks apart and rebuilds to create new, incredibly moving structures. Interlapping tonal passages, illuminated drones, deep piano melodies and pedal steel create a beautifully complex dance that should appeal to artists like Daniel Lanois, Nevada Greene and Eli Winter.

From Leeuwis: “To a large extent, this literally consisted of a deconstruction of previously written material. Melodies and harmonies were stripped to the bone and put back together while following a set of musical ground rules. One could say a dogmatic musical frame was put in place in order to form new – seemingly contradictory – free musical spaces. Two musicians, two microphones, and one Revox B77, directly to tape.”
