“Philocaly” or Greek for “The Love of Beauty” by the Philadelphia based artist Lysca (Jonah Fusco) is a slow build composition that moves from droning, neo-classical work to an overflowing IDM banger with an ever-forward perpetual motion that fulfills the concept of beauty in it’s evolving modes. Beginning with field recordings, granular synthesis and a creaky, reverb-heavy piano, “Philocaly” eventually builds momentum until a complex percussive patterns slowly comes into view. From there it’s off to the races – folding in sharp synth lines and augmented vocals until it reaches its careening peak. Truly lovely work here.
