Backed by a brass and woodwind ensemble, Lou Rogai’s meditations on death and acceptance are expressed through a medieval and Gregorian dirge that sound as they are forever caught echoing through the halls of some monastic stronghold – a bastion of stillness in the heart of New York City. “Cathedral” processes Rogai’s memory of chance encounters, musical performances and loss along the topography of a few square blocks of Morningside Heights in Manhattan. A beautiful and baroque piece of neo-classical music with stunning ensemble and vocal work.
