Bearing witness to an enveloping grey column of clouds, “Broad” floats down on heavy wings only to rise again on the next upswell of strings. This motion of tension and release from the Swiss composer is a beautiful companion to any climate with perpetual low cloud cover. A composition for strings and percussion, “Broad” is minimalist in its approach. Descending repetition rises and falls in its own internal rhythm, tension and release building on each turn. A gorgeous piece from Geymeier’s upcoming album “Kailasha”.
