Hailing from Atlanta, GA the duo known as Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel have a moniker that could be a very literal interpretation of what their music sounds like, instead the two use their instruments to bend, bow and heave themselves into heavy, gravity-producing drone that sucks in all available sound from around it. Having the opportunity to see this group prior to the pandemic, I witnessed how they play and process their instruments to sound like anything but the literal description. On “Vesta” the duo concentrates on long, overlapping drones that are heavy as molten lead but spacious enough to not feel like a laborous listen instead they occupy a space where, according to their press release, “the edges meet but don’t crowd the middle.” An apt description for the gravity-defying laws of nature they seem to be breaking here.
