The musical relationship between Andrea Dico and Francesco Carbone has been an incredibly fruitful one. Take the Long Way Home, however, reaches a new watermark that pushes their ability to create beautiful and challenging music into a new level.
The impro electroacoustic duo was born in 2018 on a trip from Cape Town to Milan. Take the Long Way Home is their second album together. The duo blends lap-steel guitar drones, electric guitar with a variety of toys, non-musical objects such as blades, cans and walkie-talkies to create a longform improvised piece that moves from the beautifully elegiac to noise-addles and confrontational. There are plenty of scrapes, drones, clangs and wails, but floating beneath it all is a foundation of flowing drone. Each movement and addition of instrumentation is built piece by piece until the end product is literally miles away from where it started.
The long way home indeed.
