On “Colourfield III” Dan Michaelson – most known for his work in the dark corners of Americana, channels artists like John Adams, Caroline Shaw and Steve Reich in this massive yet compact three minute neo-classical piece. Starting with a mournful french horn the track slowly opens up to incorporate deeply resonant bass, piano and stirring strings. Michaelson says of  “Colourfield”, “Whilst working on the tone of those records, I fell in love with the likes of John Adams, Steve Reich, Anna Thorvaldsdottir and Caroline Shaw with the same force that I had fallen for The Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen and Jonathan Richman many years before, and with the same outcome.. the inspiration to investigate a new direction”.”
