Last year we were really impressed by Carriers full-length Now is the Time for Loving Me, Yourself and Everyone Else. Featuring members of The National and Afghan Whigs, this Cincinnati super-group / brainchild created by Curt Kiser was a wide-screen Indie Rock opus that folded in psych, folk and Built to Spill-style guitar workouts. “Without You” is an excellent continuation on that large screen approach. A propulsive bass and synth line keep the entire track galloping at a steady clip, while a distortion led melody rips through the chorus creating a ghostly vocal counterpart. Guitars and crystal synths ring through the fuzz while Kiser’s vocals come in from the middle distance: an aching declaration of emotional solidarity in the face of 2020’s gaping maw.
