Walca + Menke - "On Skadi"

On this beautiful collaboration between the Swedish artists Walca and Menke, there is a delicate balance of fragmented and glitched electroacoustic melodies with the lilting and expressionistic human voice. It’s one of those tracks that never quite find a full melodic foothold, but sound all the better for it. The fragmented bits of phrasing are kept in sway by a larger, arching ambient tonal shift, but never quite coalesce. This allows the listener to sink into them as parts of the whole or to step back and marvel at the way these parts circle around one another like molecules held apart by positive tension.
