SLITES - "The Beacon"

Living in Cincinnati, it’s always inspiring to hear new work from the Queen City that is more in the experimental and ambient vein. SLITES takes an abstracted approach towards neo-classical work, deep piano melodies intersecting and weaving beneath warm, ambient pads that crest and dissolve in regular intervals. Pianos become refracted into thousands points of light only to be recycled back into themselves. Fans of artists like Loscil, Panabrite and Ben Frost should take note. The inspiration for the piece, SLITES staets, “I lived the first decade of my life in the shadow of the Malvern Hills. This single is the ending to my upcoming album, and is named for the highest point of the hills, The Beacon. It starts with a rhythmic loop, much like the early steps of a climb. Slowly shifting into a whirling drone, culminating in a calm piano of the previously fragmented melody. I hope that the music in this piece, can echo the notion that with time, our memories can be seen as parts of a whole, and shine in a new light.”
