Writing songs encouraging listeners to “lay on the floor and stare at the ceiling” should really be seen as much as a public service as it is a genre identifier. Written in a response to finding moments of mindful respite from loss and rising panic when our brain can’t figure out what it wants to freak out about, “The Silence” is a shimmering, blissful mid-tempo burner that features sparse lyrics – delivered with hushed urgency – that feature calls with no expectation for response. As a true solo project, the Atlanta-based Bailey Crone performs all the instruments on this track and on her upcoming album Last Looks coming out in 2020.
